I am typing this on my home computer on Wednesday night, and in a few hours, I will be on a plane to Omaha, Neb., to cover Arizona State in the College World Series. Nearby are my lovely wife and boys (ages 4 and 1) who I’ll be leaving for as many as 13 days.

That is one of the biggest drawbacks of my job, but you don’t need to care about that. You’re a college baseball fan who is counting on the Tribune to be your eyes and ears in Omaha, and you want to get pertinent information as it happens. Columnist Scott Bordow, who arrives in town on Friday night, and I intend to provide that service for you.

The Tribune will be a fun place to visit for as long as the Sun Devils are playing in the CWS. We’ll have thorough game coverage, insightful columns from Scott, fun-to-read feature stories and other goodies in the print and online editions each day. And Scott and I will be blogging several times daily about what we see, hear and even taste. (I’ve never been to Omaha, but they tell me you can get a good steak there. You may see a restaurant review or two.)

Also, you will go into the ASU dugout with outfielder Rocky Laguna, who will describe the goings-on through his eyes in his “Captain’s Log,” a daily diary that will appear exclusively online.

After the CWS, please keep coming back, because this blog will morph into a general Sun Devil football and baseball blog that I will contribute to regularly. Frankly, that is something that is long overdue for the Tribune.

In the two years that I’ve been on the ASU beat, I’ve found that no fans, with the possible exception of hardcore baseball seamheads, soak up information as eagerly as college sports followers. I’d be privileged if the blog became part of your daily ASU sports reading routine, and there will be opportunities to leave correspondence, which I will invite boatloads of.

Time for me to finish packing and spend as much quality time with the family as I can. My next blog entry will be from Omaha.
