From one rival to another

Not only did Arizona lose a recruit to archrival Arizona State recently — Peoria Centennial receiver Jarrell Barbour switched his verbal commitment from the Wildcats to the Sun Devils in August — but an active player went from Tucson to Tempe:

Meet Dave Bertrand, winner of two letters for Arizona as a backup defensive tackle. Shortly before the 2007 season began, the 6-foot-1, 300-pounder from Scottsdale Horizon High transferred to ASU. He has been practicing with the Sun Devils since then.

Bertrand is a walk-on at ASU, as he was at Arizona. The junior will have two years of eligibility remaining after sitting out this season, per NCAA transfer rules.

He played in six games last year and three in 2005, collecting seven career tackles.
